Idea Ramblings - Collaborations

Sat Jul 11, 2009, 7:21 AM
I was thinking about collaborations today. Most often when two artists collaborate on a piece of art, one of the artists gets most of the attention for it. In the viewer's eyes, it doesn't make much sense to "fav" a piece twice just because two people created it together. And who wants to go through the trouble of leaving a comment twice? Heck, the viewer might not even notice it's a collaboration depending on how closely they look at the

But, what if there was a "collaboration" option on the submission page? You click the check-box that it's a collaboration, and then another piece of the submission form would appear allowing you to indicate who the collaborator was. Upon submission, they'd be notified that they were added as a collaborator to the piece at which point they could confirm. Once confirmed, both artist's names would be displayed next to the artwork's title. For example: "Year Zero by ~Strider57 and *Verticae" (example from an old work that I participated in). It would also be necessary to allow both collaborating artists to contribute to the work's description. It would probably be best to allow both artists to add their own description, and then put a little separator for each artist's desciption on the work's page.

Finally, how the work is linked to each artist is probably the most important part. However, it is also the simplest part of this: simply show the same link to the collab-deviation in both artists' galleries. Then, both users would an equal amount of deserved attention for the work. Both artists would see the same comments and get the same number of favs.

Anybody have any comments/additions/ideas on this? I might try to submit the idea to the development team if I can and don't come back in a little while, re-read what I came up with, and realize the idea is completely half-baked.
